Abstract

This chapter examines how Thailand’s Kasikornbank (KBank) is leveraging digital technology to advance financial inclusion. Evolving from its origins as an agricultural lender, KBank has become a leader in digital banking by strategically using mobile platforms, blockchain, and artificial intelligence-driven services to reach historically excluded populations. Key to its strategy are the mobile application K-PLUS and the social banking platform LINE BK, which embed financial services into existing digital ecosystems, accelerating customer adoption. KBank also employs alternative credit-scoring models, analyzing behavioral and nontraditional data to solve the credit history paradox for thousands of first-time borrowers. These technological initiatives, supported by digital literacy programs, ensure that greater access leads to meaningful financial engagement. By aligning commercial goals with social impact, KBank offers a powerful model for how digital transformation can simultaneously boost business competitiveness and drive inclusive economic growth, providing valuable insights for emerging markets worldwide.
