Abstract
The structure of branch-points in natural rubber (NR) was studied by structural analysis after washing of fresh and aged NR latices with centrifugation three times in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). The nitrogen content of rubberfrom aged latex (HG-NR) and fresh latex (LG-NR) decreased to 0.02% after three times centrifugation, which is similarto enzymatic deproteinized NR. The gel content of HG-NR and LG-NR differently decreased, i.e., stepwise decreased to ca. 6% for the former, whereas the latter was leveled off at ca. 3 % after centrifuge. The decrease of Mw value and Huggins' k' constant by washing of latex indicated the step-by-step decreasing of branch-points of HG-NR. This suggests that the proteins participate in the gel formation of NR latex. The SDS-PAGE analysis of proteins extracted from cream and serum fractions revealed that all the proteins including those on the surface of rubber particles were totally diminished by washing without protein degradation.
