Abstract

Metastasis is an important cause of death in patients with retinoblastomas. The frequency of metastatic retinoblastoma in developing countries is approximately 10%. The most common metastatic site of retinoblastoma is the central nervous system (CNS), accounting for approximately 50% of cases. Optic nerve involvement is the most important risk factor for CNS metastasis. The bone is the second most common site. The multimodal treatment for metastatic retinoblastoma includes intensive systemic chemotherapy with autologous hematopoietic stem cells rescue, combined fractionated radiotherapy, and intrathecal chemotherapy.
