Abstract
In education, assessment is one of the primary measurement tools. Formative assessment is an assessment for enhancing student learning by giving feedback from the instructor to students promptly. Conducting an effective assessment to ensure students' learning outcomes requires the time and effort of the instructor. Generally, the majority of assessment tools focuses on summative assessment which lacks in encouragement and effective feedback protocol. In this paper, we purposed Pattana framework as a guideline for developing an effective formative assessment tool. Also, the prototype called 'Pattana' has been developed and tested to investigate the performance of students regarding the framework. The study was carried out on twenty-one undergraduate volunteers who anonymously applied for testing through the social media announcement. The result of testing yields a positive monotonic trend of students' performance with an increased average score after a few repeated tests (r-{s}=0.9 and p < 0.05). This Pattana is a promising alternative framework that could simplify and improve the assessment process resulting in useful feedback enabling learners to be more self-directed and independent towards program learning outcomes.
