Methods that flatten the user space for individual differences in location-based surveys on portable devices

Abstract

Location-based surveys are common and require special purpose location-based software. With the popularity of portable devices, location-based software has moved the platform to smart phones, tablets, and ph-ablets. This study focused on testing factors that play an important role in helping minimize the differences between high and low spatial visualization groups. We ran the study by inviting thirty participants to take a test to determine their spatial visualization ability, followed by the ten-house address verification task in a real neighborhood using location-based software on an Android tablet. The outcome from the experiment revealed that GPS, object-indexing, and mini map tended to flatten the difference between high and low spatial visualization users. Copyright ISCA.
