Abstract

This paper supports the progress of refractive index (RI) sensor using two cores of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with liquid infiltration. The PCF’s centre circular air hole divides the two fiber cores into two different waveguides. The mode coupling theory principle is used for RI sensor’s detection ability. On the centre air hole of the PCF, the analyte is placed whose refractive index is being measured. The sensor performance is analysed using a full-vector finite element method (FEM) method. Based on numerical analysis, the maximum wavelength sensitivity for the proposed PCF is 5000 nm/RIU, 4000 nm/RIU for x-polarised and y-polarised respectively and RI sensing ranges from 1.30 to 1.34 with maximum detection limit is 0.01.
