Abstract
This chapter aims to summarise research work on the chemical modification of natural rubber (NR) which has been investigated for more than 70 years. It includes relevant properties, utilisation and potential applications. The chemical modification involves reaction at the carbon-carbon double bond of NR and its allylic positions. The key issues in improving the properties of NR, including future research trends in the chemical modifation of NR such as sulphonated NR and new ionic polymer based NR, will also be mentioned.
