Abstract

Treatment of chalcone-epoxide 1 with lithium tetramethyl-piperidide gives two anions: enolate 3 and the remote anion 4 which upon formation, 4 adds to unreacted starting material 1 to yield the diastereoisomeric products 5 and 6.
