Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University The Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University, originally known as the Faculty of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, was established on April 6, 1960, by Professor Dr. Chamlong Disakul and Professor Dr. Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta. This establishment was officially endorsed by a Royal Decree, announced in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, Volume 77, Section 28, on April 5, 1960. The decree highlighted the necessity to thoroughly educate medical professionals in tropical medicine and conduct research for the advancement of medical sciences related to tropical diseases in Thailand. Adhering to this mission, the Faculty has consistently focused on tropical disease research as its core endeavor.
Currently, the Faculty comprises 11 academic departments, 1 hospital, 5 administrative offices, and 5 centers of excellence. These components are instrumental in carrying out the Faculty’s primary duties and producing significant research outcomes in the field of tropical diseases. Additionally, the Faculty is dedicated to offering educational programs that provide in-depth knowledge about tropical diseases and delivering medical and academic services.
The Faculty of Tropical Medicine is entrusted with several key authorities and responsibilities:

To develop and implement comprehensive educational programs in tropical medicine. To prepare students and professionals with the expertise needed to combat tropical diseases.

To provide specialized medical services for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tropical diseases.
To offer academic services and consultations in the field of tropical medicine.
Development and Support:
To establish and support centers of excellence in various aspects of tropical medicine.
To maintain and enhance facilities for research, education, and medical services.
